Re-establishment of salt marsh plants

May 22, 2023

In the month since mulching finished for the season, native salt marsh plants have already begun to colonize the Duck Harbor over-wash plain.

Maritime Orache (Atriplex acadiensis) and Salt Meadow Cordgrass (Spartina patens) hug a tree stump.

Maritime Orache (broad leaves) and Seablite (Suaeda maritima) surround a recently cut, 1.5-K diameter pitch pine
stump. The pine was killed by over-washed seawater, and cut and chipped to hasten the re-establishment of salt marsh
vegetation.
